Gulen File Sent to Public Prosecutor

Ankara State Security Court (DGM) continued to try Islamic scholar Fethullah Gulen because of forming an illegal organization in order to change the country's secular order and being involved in activities with this aim. Gulen faces up to 10 years imprisonment if found guilty.

Three lawyers of Gulen attended the hearing held on Monday. Court chairman Huseyin Eken said that the Deputy Police Chief Osman Ak, who testified at the case, was ready to testify once again if needed.

Gulen's lawyer Abdulkadir Aksoy stated that Ak's claims were untrue, emphasizing that there was no need for him to testify once again.

Public Prosecutor Nuh Mete Yuksel said that the court would decided whether to hear the testimony of Ak, asking the court to give the file to him in order to indicate his opinion.

Court chairman Eken ruled that there was no need for another testimony and adjourned the hearing after deciding to give the file to the public prosecutor. 10.22.2002
